day 81 blog 67 halloween

ok my visions of a perfect little home stitched banana girl (sea) standing tall and proud next to her loving little monkey brother (story) embracing her while both clutching their candy sacks and in front of the perfect jack-o-lantern lined porch while trick-or-treating didn't quite pan out that way...i normally wouldn't put such a lame photo as this first one where you can't even tell that sea is a banana and the porch is quite lacking in organic character...but hey, when you have a crazy unpredictable schedule in a town you have never been in trick-or-treating and the focus is on your sister-in-law and her new baby and you feel like halloween should be an after thought if it fits in somewhere anyway but you spent hours upon hours upon days making said banana costume and really just want to see it in action and have been idealizing the glee your children will feel together and the wonderful photographs you will take of them running from home to home with so many other fantastically sugared out costumed kids...well, imagine my disappointment that i left BOTH cameras in the hospital room... AND the video camera...so at first i only had my super low resolution phone and then at the very end of the night when we went back to the car i realized one camera was in there and we went back to one more house to get these few shots, so well, the kids were done and manuel was over it, too...so i'll narrate what we have here and try not to pout about it too much longer...
story's little ears and carrying his own bag...
sea reaching for more candy (one piece per house was never enough for her)...story off to the next house...determined, with a mission...
checking their loot...
another bad photo but at least you can kinda see the full length of the banana...
me doing that horrible neck strain, sea trying to hold her costume up, story looking cute...
sea trying to pull her costume off, me looking more normal, story over being held...
sea waving hello, me finally "getting it" that it should be more about the experience than the fact that i didn't capture it on film, story still over it...
our whole family at the end of the night...yes, m did have to hold sea's costume up...
lame me had to go back after the fact to take a photo of the type of house i wanted to use as a backdrop for my kids running up to their door...
the next morning we went looking for antiques and other furniture type stuff...this was one of the shops we went to...staying with the halloween/orange theme...and it is sea's favorite color...
here she is contemplating something in the back seat waiting for her dad...
same shot further back with the jack-o-lantern socks and orange shop in the background...
we had breakfast at crepeville...
here is story saying "oooooOOOOOooooohhhhhh: like a ghost...only i found out later he actually thinks it is spiders that make that sound...
he was so happy/cute i had to put one more shot of him in...
we had breakfast with m's parents and our friend john who lives there in sac...so here is one final shot with him...off to see if i can get one more post in tonight...if not, i am hosting preschool at my house tomorrow and we are doing a costume theme so i hope to have better full length shots of their costumes...

  2. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to make costumes - you did a great job :) I think the shots you did get were a lot of fun - it shows the personality of your family, which is the whole idea, right? :) I think I'd love to eat at a place called crepeville. yummmm!
