trolley ride with mimi and angee

ever since we moved to san diego i've wanted to take the trolley all over...when we used to live in banker's hill the trolley would literally drive by our apartment and i always thought it would be cool to take the tour and photograph my house out the window. so the other day when my mom (mimi) and sister (angee) visited we took the old historic trolley tour...a red trolley that takes you all over san diego...most places we go anyway, but i didn't know the history behind this tour. it was a little pricey at $30/pp but locals go free with a paid ticket and the intent is for you to use this trolley as transportation and hang out at each of the 10 or so stops with on and off privileges...of course we took the last one and just rode the whole loop...i wasn't going to post photos i took of sites out the window since they are so familiar to me but then i just realized we could move some day and i'd like to have visual aids of these backyard staples and, well, if i ever get around to reading others blogs and commenting like i used to, i might get readers myself who would like to see more of san diego (yes, i plan to visit you soon if you are reading this!!!)...so here it goes...

when we first moved to san diego we lived a few blocks above little italy and would walk here to cafes and art shops and to eat at fillipes...
this is the view of san diego (obviously taken out of a window) with the airport in the foreground..
i was lucky to time a plane flying in to said airport...we literally watched these flying over our apartment every 2 minutes when we lived by downtown in banker's hill (we had a view of the landing strip and bay out our living room window)...
heading down along harbor drive with downtown in the background...
this is the ship (the star of india) my dad was admiring with my husband when he passed away from cardiac arrest...it is still somehow peaceful to me (he loved the water and ships so it was very fitting for me) though my mom and sister had to distract themselves with talking about anything meaningless they could think of to NOT look at this ship...hard that we all have such different coping mechanisms...
this is the view from the coronado bridge (coronado on the left and downtown san diego in the background)...
this is the view on coronado at the end of orange avenue looking across the bay to downtown...
we passed another trolley on our journeys so i thought i'd take a photo of what we are riding on...
the famous "hotel del" in coronado...
my mom and sister listening to the tour guide at the end after story finally crashed...

sea of course was wide awake and hanging and climbing and making friends the entire journey...
incidentally, as i was about to publish this post i remembered one association i had riding this trolley was how we had taken essentially the same "tour" with my dad the day he passed away...he was down visiting with my mom and some relatives i hardly knew and we were showing them around san diego...my dad was an awesome "tour guide" and loved to tell stories...some of them made up as he went along...but that is partly how my son got his name...
